Sabhawala Magnetic Observatory was put into commission in January 1964. This observatory was started to study the secular changes in the Earth's Magnetic Field and being the only observatory in the Northern region to control the field magnetic survey in the Northern part of India. It is under the control of the Survey of India(SOI), Dehradun. This observatory is situated on the fringe of reserved forest about 1 km south of ASAN River and about 34 km west of Dehradun.
