Annamalainagar
Observatory was started in October 1957 as a part
of India's participation in the International Geophysical
Year (IGY) program. It is situated in the Annamalai
University campus. This site is about 10 km away from
the east coast of India and it is coming under the
proximity to the periphery of Equatorial Electrojet
belt. This observatory was closed down in December
1993. But observations from the Pondicherry observatory
since 1994, maintain the continuity for the latitude.
